Franco-Prussian 전쟁으로 피난 온 독일과 오스트리아 난민들은 1870년 New Almaden Quicksilver 광산 인근에 정착하여 과수원과 포도원을 개발했습니다.
1957년부터 1980년까지 Mount Umunhum "UM-un-um" 정상에는 Almaden 공군 기지가 있었는데, 이 기지는 레이더 기지망의 일부 역할을 했습니다. 아직도 보이는 사각형 콘크리트 구조물은 한때 냉전 시대의 대형 레이더 돛의 기반이었습니다.

Mount Umunhum Access Permit Conditions

The conditions listed below relate access to Mount Umunhum by permitted groups.

General Permit Conditions:

  Access for permittees is only on days that are not holidays. Access is only allowed during regular preserve hours. No after-hours access is allowed.

  There are no trash receptacles. Any trash generated by your group must be packed out (removed from Mount Umunhum).

  Due to limited parking for activities starting from the Bald Mountain and Jacques Ridge parking lots the number of vehicles is limited to 11 cars at Bald Mountain and 5 cars at Jacques Ridge. Carpooling is very strongly encouraged.

  No buses longer than 24 feet are allowed

  All vehicles associated with the permitted activity must have exited from Mount Umunhum Road by the time of the gate closure (1/2 hour after sunset) at the intersection of Hicks Road and Mount Umunhum Road.

  Weather conditions, such as snow or high winds, may mean closure of the mountain, and cancellation of the event.

  Feeding wildlife is prohibited.
